2008 Hunter Laing & Co. Old Malt Cask Single Cask Mortlach 14 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Straight from Dufftown, the "Whisky Capital of the World", with no less than six distilleries in a small town of around 1500 people! Mortlach may not be the most famous of the group, but it tends to attract veteran malt drinkers, partly for that reason. The quality is typically high, with sherry butts frequently matched against its fulsome spirit. From the Laings - expect aromas of liquorice and red berries with a hint of smoke followed by cocoa powder, caramel sauce and toasted malt on the palate The finish is long, malt and satisfyingly sweet. 310 bottles were drawn from a refill hogshead in July 2022. 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Stuart Laing, son of famous independent bottler, Douglas F. Laing established Hunter Laing & Co. after nearly 50 years in the industry, breaking away from his brother Fred who remains the owner of the Douglas Laing Company. Hunter Laing are best known for their Old Malt Cask, Douglas of Drumlanrig and Old and Rare series, all of which are sourced from single casks from distilleries around Scotland.
