Like Ardmore, Tullibardine and Tamnavulin, all of which have historically focussed on producing malt for blends, Tomatin re-invented themselves as a single malt brand proper as interest in malts began to surge in the new millenium. Hence, it wasn't until 2004 that a core twelve year old was released. As of 2021, sales have skyrocketed to 750,000 bottles annually! This Douglas Laing release should be a big, beefy Tomatin, described by the bottlers as "Richly defined in malted barley, gentle spices and fruit with big ceral and honey flavours and even a hint of salt." 384 bottles were charged from a single refill hogshead.
