2008 Claxton's Warehouse No.1 Longmorn 12 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
This has got to be the darkest Longmorn on record. To the eye it could be twice the stated age. Those gorgeous honeyed cereal notes so typical of Longmorn are only just preserved here, as if drizzled over a cornucopia of dried fruits. A little orange zest and cedary oak helps balance things out. Equally charming in the mouth, starting out like Oloroso, but finishing like PX with dates and gingery warmth. Dark chocolate adds a fine and deliciously bittersweet edge throughout. Unique and luscious Longmorn. Never tasted one quite like this before. May never again. 258 bottles from a sherry cask. 52.6% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from Claxton's... Nose: A box of sugared fruits and sweets. Icing sugar and dessert pairs. Palate: Bursting with candied fruits and old-fashioned sweets. Big flavours. Finish: Big finish with fruit being dominant in the aftertaste.
