2008 Charles Melton Rose of Virginia

We first encountered Charlie Melton in the early 1980’s when he made his first attempts to sell wine into the Melbourne market delivering the wine himself in the back of his ute. The clever play on words for his Nine Popes blend caught the admiration of wine lovers who enjoyed the Aussie interpretation of Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape.

Magnificent colour. Superb translucent purple, mauve and magenta colour – a visual delight. Top note of ripe raspberry, confectionary and spice, over a layer of strawberry and liquorice. Excellent palate weight with an almost joosy quality. Clean acid finish. Long raspberry and strawberry aftertaste.
