2007 Pisa Range Black Poplar Block Pinot Noir

The ‘Black Poplar Block’ is a four hectare planting which takes its name from the two majestic 100 year old Black Poplar trees that dominate the vineyard. The first two hectares are planted in Clone 10/5 and 5 - the balance is planted in a number of Dijon clones - 113, 777, 114, 115 and 667. The wine has been matured in French oak barriques (one third new) for one year.

An outstanding Central Otago Pinot Noir. Excellent near opaque dark crimson red mauve colour with crimson mauve hue. Superb aromatics displaying romas of black cherry, violets, Troncais oak and spice – excellent intensity. Explosive palate flavours of black cherries, anise and violet infusions over a spicy cedar background. The wine delivers a very impressive power wave of flavour, one that the Central Otago Pinot Noir has become famous for. Velvet like tannin structure with very long persistent aftertaste of black cherry, anise and spice. Cellar 3-4 years (2013-2014)
