2006 Old Pulteney 16 Year Old Single Cask No.1927 Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Twenty five years ago, Pulteney was almost impossible to find. All of its output went into blends. The quality of the malt saw it rocket to stardom in a short space of time with the 17 and 21 year olds highly acclaimed. Pulteney quickly earned the nickname of "The Manzanilla of the North" due to its resemblance to a dry sherry. Some would call the distillery style ‘Atlantic fresh’, or as Serge Valentin of whiskyfun has said, "...like a bottle of Champagne blanc de blanc from a not-too-fat vintage." This 16 year old German exclusive should be pretty spot on. The bright gold colour suggests x-bourbon maturation, which hopefully means no extreme oak in the way of the delicate coastal tones, sea air, citrus, honeysuckle and generally fresh character that is Pulteney at its best. 246 bottles were drawn from a single barrel landing at direct import pricing. 53.8% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the producers... notes of rich butterscotch and vanilla give way to caramelised almonds and a delicate spice. Lingering honey fades to a sweet fruitiness to welcome a long indulgent finish.
