2006 Kay Brothers Block 6 Shiraz
Was $135.00 Now $79.99
Sourced from 114 year old vines with maturation taking place in new American and Baltic oak barrels for over 2 years. Impenetrable inky black colour with a very deep dark red black hue. Intense aromatics of liquorice and dark chocolate exude from the glass chased by scents of ripe blackberries, mocha, vanillin oak and spice. The palate is flooded with fabulously rich fruit, liquorice flavours leading the charge over ripe blackberries, dark plum and some black cherries with an undercurrent of subtle dark chocolate infusions, spicy vanillin oak and faint earth. Full bodied but perfectly balanced with a satiny yet structured tannin framework complimenting the gorgeously opulent fruit. Long explosive aftertaste of liquorice, blackberries, black cherries, subtle dark chocolate, spicy vanillin oak and some pepper infusions. Outstanding drinking now but will easily cellar a further 5-6 years.
Alc 15%
Other Reviews….
The Block 6 Shiraz comes from centurion vines plated in 1896. The 2006 Block 6 Shiraz has a very deep garnet color going a little brick in the rim and an evolved, earthy / gamey nose with notes of mulberries, dried plums, kirsch and tobacco plus menthol, cinnamon stick, licorice and espresso. Rich and full yet elegantly constructed, it presents a medium level of very fine tannins, crisp acid and a long layered finish. A very fine glass now, it should continue to cellar to 2019+
