Since new owners took over at Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey in 2014 it has undergone a complete renovation of the cellars and winemaking facilities, along with a decrease in yields to ensure only the best grapes go into their top label. Their renewed attention to detail is also evident in the new bottle design, introduced from the 2013 vintage and featuring a smart engraved logo. The 41 hectare vineyard is planted on clay over limestone soils, with a varietal mix of 93% Semillon, 6% Sauvignon Blanc and 1% Muscadelle.

Other Reviews....
The 2006 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is worthy follow-up to the 2005 and just as good. The bouquet is a soaring success, featuring wild honey, quince, saffron, flakes of white chocolate and pineapple chunks – more fun and more engaging than the stately 2005. The palate is medium-bodied with a lovely viscous texture, a fine bead of acidity and a very cohesive mandarin and grapefruit finish. This has always been on an upward curve and comes recommended given reasonable market prices. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at home. Drink 2019-2045.

Shows botrytis spice, with lemon peel and dried apple aromas. Full-bodied, sweet and racy, with loads of spicy character and strong acidity. A serious Sauternes. Best after 2014.

The wine starts lively, almost fresh. Only after a while in the mouth do you taste the intense richness underneath. The structure is of pear skins, with white fig and sweet dried apricot syrup. The botrytis, dry at the heart of the wine, gives the whole ensemble great balance.

Youthful, vigorous, sweet and fresh, there is a nice purity in the honeyed tropical fruits. Tempered with candied apricots and vanilla bean, the sweet, honey coated, tropical finish has ample lift.
