In 1992 when winemaker David Powell was working at Rockford Wines in the Barossa, he discovered a parcel of near lifeless dry grown Barossa Shiraz which he turned into wine. From there he raised some funds to share farm the vineyard, thereby securing the extraordinary fruit. Torbreck wines are centred around the three classic Barossa varietals of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro, being inspired by the great wines of the Rhone Valley.

Opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue. Top note of liquorice, followed by spice, blackberry, smoky oak and vanilla. The palate flavours are generous – mouthfilling vanilla, liquorice and plum, followed by black pepper and spice back palate. Fine grained tannins, perfect balance. Long aftertaste of vanilla, spice and liquorice allsorts.
Cellar 3-4 years (2010-2011)
Alc/Vol: 14.5%

Other Reviews...
The 2005 The Struie was sourced from cooler Eden Valley and Barossa Valley hillside vineyards. It is David Powell’s attempt to showcase the cooler side of the region. Vine age ranges from 46-110 years old. The wine was aged for 18 months in older French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. It delivers a splendid bouquet of lead pencil, game, blueberry muffin, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by an elegant Shiraz which is nevertheless full-bodied, dense, and richly flavored. Plush on the palate, it has superior depth and length and the structure to evolve for 6-8 years. Drink it through 2027.
