Aged for 24 months in new French hogsheads. Totally opaque inky black core with a very deep dark red black hue. Nosing reveals aromas of dark plums, dark chocolate and liquorice with underlying vanillin cedar and spice. Huge, monumental palate weight is coupled with extravagant richness and a thick dense texture. Flavours of dark chocolate, dark plum and liquorice flood the palate with vanillin cedar and spice following. Velvet smooth tannins with a trace of heat on the finish. Long powerful aftertaste of dark plums, dark chocolate, liquorice, spicy vanillin cedar and some emerging leather.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
Alc 16.9%

Other Reviews…
Hobbs of Barossa Ranges, owned by Greg and Allison Hobbs, has vineyards contiguous with Chris Ringland’s Three Rivers Vineyard. They also employ Ringland as a consultant winemaker. This is known as stacking the deck. All of the Hobbs wines are made with minimal intervention including no fining or filtration.

The 2005 Shiraz was sourced from the same vineyard and received the same elevage. It exhibits a similar flamboyant personality but without the extra dimension of complexity from the Viognier component.
