2005 Craneford John Zilm Shiraz Museum Release Shiraz

This wine was the last made by John Zilm before he left Craneford Wines in mid 2006. (The wine actually contains 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, though by law, Australian winemakers don't have to declare any additional varieties over 15%). This stand out effort has been matured for 16 months in French oak.

This magnifcent Barossa Shiraz can be enjoyed now but is holding up exceptionally well.
Opaque dark red black colour with deep dark brick red hue. The nose is quite perfumed with lifted aromas of liquorice, dark plum, vanilla, chocolate and confectionary. The palate displays impressive weight and concentration with very generous mouthflling favours of black plum, liquorice and blackberry, followed by some confectionary and spice on the back palate. Voluptuously textured, with a silky smooth tannin structure. Superb length with very long aftertaste of dark plum, liquorice, blackberry, confectionary and spice.
Drink now or cellar for a further 4-5 years (2010-2015)

The profound 2005 Shiraz John Zilm was aged in new French and used American oak for 16 months. With an inky/blue/purple color, plenty of purity, richness, and depth as well as notes of incense, blackberries, licorice, pepper, and espresso roast, it offers great presence on the palate, lofty amounts of glycerin, and high alcohol (16%). Drink it over the next decade or more.
