2004 Kay Brothers Hillside Shiraz
Very deep crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Aroma of spice followed by violet, plum, liquorice allsorts and vanilla. On the palate, flavours of plum and vanilla are followed by liquorice allsorts and black pepper. Fine grained, dryish tannins which persist into the aftertaste. Well made, but lacking that special McLaren Vale joosy character.
Cellar 3-4 years (2009-2010)
Alc/Vol: 14.5%
Other Reviews…
From 6- to 34-year-old vines, the 2004 Shiraz Hillside spent 28 months in American oak, 50% new and 50% used. A blockbuster effort, it reveals deep, chocolaty, meaty notes intermixed with blackberries, cherries, and cassis. Inky/ruby/purple-coloured, with a large mouthfeel, full body, and well-integrated acidity, tannin, and alcohol, this is a superb McLaren Vale Shiraz to enjoy over the next 12-15 years.
