Tasting note: Lovers of sherry bombs will be keen to get their hands on this latest Australian exclusive from Glenallachie, specially selected for Melbourne's best whisky bar. Give it time to get passed the vapoury alcohol and you get thick PX-laced aromas of dates, prunes, fruit mince pie and fresh raisin cake. Uncut, it's typically full bodied, hot blooded Glenallachie; bittersweet, nipping spices roll into a luscious vein of malt and sweet sherry; dried fruits, rich vanillas and hints of muscat are countered by spikes of pepper and oaky astringency. There's a nod towards Demerara rum with a touch of molasses and mocha entering late. Minimal water lifts the nose into third gear, lending the palate more of an oloroso feel. Overall it's grippy, chewy and very energetic malt - nowhere near as broad and sweet as some recent Glenallachies. Whisky & Alement deliver a serious proposition for sherry heads that rewards time in the glass. 58.7% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 334 bottles
