2003 St. Johns Road Julia Greenock Shiraz
Very deep almost opaque black crimson colour. Superb lifted nose with hint of animal followed by leather, spice, liquorice, ripe plum and dark chocolate. The palate is full bodied, with flavours of chocolate, spice, earth, leather and black pepper emerging. Fine grained tannins. Excellent balance, with long aftertaste of earth, spice and leather.
Cellar 2-3 years (2007-2008)
Alc/Vol: 14.0%
Other Reviews…The 2003 Shiraz, made by Rolf Binder, is still in barrel, but appears to have stunning potential. A gorgeously sweet nose of blackberry fruit intermixed with notions of chocolate and spice (any new oak utilized has been completely absorbed by the wealth of fruit) is followed by a big, rich, full-bodied texture, outstanding purity, and a layered, opulent, voluptuous finish. It should drink well for a decade.
