2002 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz
Penfolds Bin 389 was first produced in 1960 and quickly established a reputation as the ‘Poor mans Grange’. Made from a blend of 53% Cabernet and 47% Shiraz, the wine was matured for twelve months in 22% new, one year old, and older American oak hogsheads. Opaque crimson colour with a deep crimson hue. Perfumed nose of spice, violets, blackcurrant and blackberry. The palate is generous and full-bodied with a fine, dry tannin backbone. Flavours of ripe blackcurrant, liquorice and spice over a vanillin oak background. Perfect balance, with a very long aftertaste. Stocks are Limited.
Alc/Vol: 14.5%
Other Reviews....
Powerful but silky smooth; elegance and fruit freshness beyond the normal, black fruits running through the length of the palate; ripe tannins, restrained oak. Another testament to 2002. Cork.
