2001 Signatory Vintage Bunnahabhain 23 Year Old Symington's Choice Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
A very affordable 23 year old Bunnah' that falls in line with others from Symington's series, being heavily sherried and requiring air time to 'wake up' and show its best. Oloroso butt #1438 filled 540 bottles. Less than a handful on offer! 59.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... The nose is very appealing: sulfurous, but still within reason, with notes of leather, old books, and a lovely hint of raspberry. The taste is quite intense, which does bring the whisky down, perhaps less so for me than for some. The sulfur is very pronounced. Water softens the alcohol and brings out the raspberry a bit more, but it doesn't really mask the sulfur. Again, leather, dusty old books, and the raspberry and sulfured raisins emerge. A pleasant oak note lingers on the finish. The depth and age are evident. However, the sulfur note is quite jarring. Overall, it's still a very good whisky and by no means boring, but certainly not to everyone's taste or the most harmonious experience one can have. - whiskybase.com
