2001 Pirramimma Reserve Shiraz

The JOHNSTON family purchased the Pirramimma property in 1892, with the first wine being made in 1900. Today, the Johnston’s have large vineyard holdings which provides them with the best grapes for their own wines, the balance of the fruit is sold into the market. Their big reds, captured imagination of the trade right from the outset and have remained in high demand over the years. This is the high point of Pirramimma winemaking, made from fruit grown in their premium Shiraz vineyard. Opaque black purple colour with black deep crimson hue. The nose is perfumed, with aroma of violets, vanilla, liquorice and dark chocolate – a pleasure to sniff. The palate shows that voluptuous quality that is the hallmark of great McLaren Vale reds. Mouthfilling flavours of ripe plum, vanilla, confectionary, liquorice and charry oak are perfectly balanced with fine tannin structure. Very long aftertaste of liquorice, spice and plum.
