2001 Koltz Shiraz

A superb wine and a new discovery for us from former Wirra Wirra winemaker Mark Day. Opaque black crimson colour with deep mauve hue. Superb nose of vanilla, dark chocolate, ripe plum, spice and violets. The palate weight is a touch less voluptuous than many of the 2001 McLaren Vale reds, yet delivers a delightful, refined palate structure. The palate is very peppery with the blackpepper flavours continuing long into the back palate and aftertaste. Fine, dryish tannins, excellent balance, followed by very long aftertaste of dark chocolate and liquorice allsorts.
