Heathcote Winery have recently employed Peter Douglas, of Gartner Coonawarra and formerly Wynns fame, as consultant winemaker. As an indication of the quality of Shiraz that Heathcote can produce, Peter believes that Heathcote will one day produce a Shiraz to rival Grange!
Made from Heathcote Shiraz with a touch of Viognier (2.5%), the wine was matured in a combination of American and French barriques for a period of 24 months. Opaque black crimson colour with very deep mauve edges. Aroma of spice over a perfumed background, with notes of earth and truffle over ripe plums. The palate displays an abundance of ripe fruit flavours - plum, liquorice and toasted oak over back palate flavour of cedar and vanilla. The palate has weight, and is supported by fine firmish dry tannins. Excellent balance, followed by a long aftertaste of spice, vanilla and plum. Cellar 3-4 years.
