1999 Cape Mentelle Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

An outstanding wine made from a blend of 50% Semillon and 50% Sauvignon Blanc. Bright pale straw colour. Intense grassy nose with pronounced herbaceous background, followed by aromas of unripe gooseberry, tropical fruit and a touch of spicy oak. 30% of this wine was fermented in new French and American oak barrels and left on lees for 3 months, giving the wine added complexity. The palate is mouthfilling with concentrated grassy herbaceous and unripe gooseberry flavours. Outstanding length and perfect balance, followed by a very long grassy, unripe gooseberry and citrus aftertaste. Cellar 1-2 years.
