1998 Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1

Made from a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, with Malbec, Merlot and PetitVerdot. Dense purple crimson red colour. On the nose there are concentrated Cabernet fruit aromas of cassis/blackberry. Very sweet ripe black fruits on the palate, and the wine initially quite tight and closed. Opens up in the glass with some complex herbal notes. New sweet oak is evident especially on the palate and the long finish, by way of flavour and also the firm tannins. This wine needs lots of time in bottle to show its best.
