1998 Leconfield Chardonnay

Bright deep straw colour with a hint of green. The regional character expresses itself with this wine, allowing, the citrus, melon and grapefruit flavours to remain in the forefront. The complexity of aroma on the nose reflects the barrel fermentation process with aromas of butterscotch, yeast lees, melon and grapefruit perfectly matched to the toasted oak. The palate expresses the nose and continues to show the careful balance of component parts and again allowing the fruit to manifest itself. A more austere style that say those of Rosemount, but more suited to a variety of foods. Clean crisp acidity with long aftertaste of toasted oak, yeast lees, almond and grapefruit. Cellar 3-5 years.
