Jim Barry’s McRae Wood Shiraz has been a very consistent performer over the last few years, and the 1998 upholds the trend.Opaque, black, crimson mauve colour. Aroma of cedar, blackcurrant, spice, mint, cinnamon and mulberry. The palate has excellent weight, with again that distinct mint quality which continues right through the wine and into the aftertaste. Palate flavours of blackcurrant, liquorice and cedar are enhanced by fine grained tannins and a long cedar, blackcurrant, mint and spice aftertaste. Wait at least 3 years prior to drinking. Cellar 5-8 years.

Retasted: March 2001

Yet another outstanding wine from the 1998 vintage. Opaque crimson colour. Aroma of mint, truffle, spice, violets with a hint of toasted oak. The palate flavours are impressive, with the mint characteristic reappearing, followed by flavours of spice, chocolate and plum. Perfect balance, with very long aftertaste of mint, plum, aniseed and stewed fruit. Cellar 4-5 years.
