Take a cask strength whisky as pure and fruity as Glen Grant, then mature it in a sherry butt, and you get something along the lines of a spicy, amped-up Borderies or Petit Champagne Cognac. Wavering from being fairly woody and nondescript on the nose to being laden with stone fruits and wood spices, sherry gives a compelling twist on the classic Bourbon-matured Glen Grant profile. Intense and succulent, creamy and malt-forward with underlying honey, baked apple and poached pear flavours followed by hints of beeswax and festive spices complexing the finish, it gets better and better each time you taste it.
