1998 Claxton's Warehouse No.1 Arran 23 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

One of the earlier efforts from Arran (founded in 1994), but Harold Currie hit the ground running when it came to nailing a quality distillate early in the piece. Filled into a single, fresh sherry hogshead, the aromas open grassy, nutty, muted and and slightly sulphury, then turn malty and honeyed with sprinklings of cinnamon, ginger and honey. This is a huge Arran, wonderfully thick and oily with sweet nutty malt, honey and ginger snaps up front, further highlighted with water. Trace sulphur is evident but added sherry richness compensates in the fruit'n'nut dark chocolate finish. 49.9% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 234 bottles.
