1997 Cape Mentelle Shiraz

This wine is inspired by the great reds of the Rhone Valley and has undergone traditional vinification including partial whole berry fermentation and 18 months barrel maturation. Opaque crimson, purple colour. Magnificent Rhone like nose with strong spice, earth and truffle aromas with a touch of new leather as an end note. The palate is mouthfilling - earthy truffle, spice and blackberry flavours with an underlying mint character and a spicy pepper end palate. Perfect balance with fine grained tannins, firm, but perfectly supported by the strong pepper, plums, spice fruit. Very long mint, earth and plum aftertaste. Cellar 8-10 years.
