Australian shiraz can best be described as a voluptous expression of super ripe fruit flavours - sometimes a little too ripe. It's generosity of flavour has created an international demand that can't be satisfied. However, every now and again another dimension to shiraz is created. In the mid 1970's it was the black pepper wines of cool climate Victoria that captured the imagination of the drinking public. By the 1980's some 'dilution' was being experienced, as warm area winemakers imitated their cool climate rivals. In the 90's a new generation of shiraz has emerged - produced from old vines that are very carefully maintained in the vineyard. Michael is an expression of the new generation of superfine shiraz.Magnificent deep crimson purple colour - brilliantly vibrant! The nose is superb and heralds a great wine. Wonderful aromas of violets, spice, superfine refined blackberries, plum and cedar. The palate is filled with magnificent, refined shiraz - explosive, mouthfilling and exceptionally long - spicy blackberry flavours, enhanced by a cedar and confectionary background. Superb balance, very fine velvet tannins with long, superfine, blackberry and spice aftertaste. A great shiraz with rare finesse. Cellar 10-15 years.
