1996 Leasingham Classic Clare Shiraz

A monument of a wine. Magnificent, memorable, mouthfilling and a must! Each vintage the best Shiraz is selected for this Classic Clare label and what a wine the 1996 is! We've pulled many a cork over the years, but haven't seen too many like this - the bottom of the bottle is coated in a purple black fine grained layer of vinous paste. It's totally opaque and one could easily paint a black board with it. The grapes were sourced from Schobers Vineyard, barrel fermented and aged in American oak for 24 months. Totally opaque crimson black colour. Superb nose of super ripe (but not jammy) plums, vanilla, liquorice, spice, blackberry and blackcurrant concentrate. This wine redefines the term big. Totally mouthfilling, the wine fills every cavity of the mouth and explodes in a volcano of active olfactory molecules. Vanilla, toasted oak, dark chocolate and huge blackpepper back palate flavours. Perfect balance. Magnificent fine blackberry and ripe blood plum aftertaste. Awarded 1 Trophy and 4 Gold Medals. Cellar 8-10 years. Outstanding!
