Other reviews....
Medium garnet-brick in color, the 1996 Merlot exudes notes of Chinese dried plums, truffles, earth and spice box accented by hints of game and tobacco. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with rich, spicy and savory flavors framed with balanced acid, medium to firm, grainy tannins and a long finish. Mature for drinking now.

Medium to full red-purple; a tremendously powerful, concentrated and dense bouquet with a mix of earthy, briary and spicy notes foreshadows an ultra-powerful palate which takes no prisoners. There is so much structure there, it is hard to see the flesh or really understand where the wine will head over the next ten years.
