An extraordinary wine from a great vintage.

The 1978 Domaine La Romanee Conti’s are amongst the finest wines we’ve drunk, with a power wave and recall that remains virtually unequalled in the world of wine. Deep onion brown colour, with brick red hue. Medium body. Sensational nose – the sort of aroma that one prays to find in every bottle of wine. A perfumed array of notes that overwhelm the nose, with notes of game, wild roses, hints of stalk, wild strawberries, spice and old leather. Explosive power wave on the palate, unequalled by anything else in the line up. The wine adds a new interpretation to the expression ‘totally mouthfilling’ as it goes well beyond that. The Pinot fruit characteristics are still evident, echoed by layers of spice, old leather, hints of liquorice and pepper. Velvet smooth tannin structure, and an aftertaste that lasts for 10-15 minutes. Ten years ago, the flavour recall time was well into the following day.
