1978 Bullers Vintage Port

A magnificent example of Rutherglen Vintage Port, which has been awarded 2 Trophies, 5 Gold Medals, 9 Silver and 6 Bronze. Very deep sienna brown colour, almost opaque, and showing the results of bottle maturation. Aroma of caramel, toffee, very fine brandy spirit, over layers of raisins, Christmas cake and dark chocolate. Superb palate, with velvet smooth texture, over complex layers of caramel, liquorice, dark chocolate and wonderfully mellow brandy spirit. Perfect balance, followed by an exceptionally long aftertaste of honey, liquorice, toffee and raisins. A classic and rare example of a top Australian Vintage Port style. The wine was at the time of tasting 23 years old, and whilst the corks are moist and in relatively good condition, they are rather fragile and can break during extraction. A slow gentle screw motion is recommended. The wine is capable of being cellared for a further 4 – 5 years. (2005 – 2006), however recorking is recommended if cellared beyond this time.
