"A see-saw of a dram full of rich, mouth bulging entertainment". - Jim Murray.

Going back in time with a historical bottling that must rank amongst 'Morangie's earliest efforts in 'exotic' wood finishings. Nowadays they're common place. This one's finished in casks from Chapoutier’s winery - one of the kings of Hermitage. The casks contained red wine but Dr Lumsden doesn’t quite know from which vineyards. We do know that the grape variety was Syrah, and that the malt spent no less than four years in what are described on the label as "Cote du Rhone's finest wine casks". Distilled in 1975 and bottled in 2003 at 46% with zero filtration, we have one only from a private collection.

Other reviews... flat at first, then a rush of ultraripe fruity notes; the middle merges effortlessly into the finish; much more together here with pleasing, mouthwatering fruit outlines against a deepening chocolate kick and those bizarre peat tones again...88 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2008
