Located in a picturesque valley along the banks of Glenn's Creek in northern Kentucky, the eighty-two acre Old Taylor Distillery site features one of the most remarkable sights in the bourbon industry - the famous medieval-style 'Old Taylor Castle', made entirely of hand cut Kentucky white limestone. The distillery was once a thriving bourbon producer of the bluegrass state and was the first to reach the benchmark count of one million U.S. Government certified cases of Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

Colonel E. H. Taylor Jr. established the distillery in 1887. Known as the “father of the modern bourbon industry”, he guaranteed quality in an industry that had virtually lost all credibility with consumers. Taylor was the originator of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, which was a federal subsidy by tax deferral for product made under strict government standards and supervision. In fact, most of our current standards in consumable products followed the spirit of consumer protection that Taylor brought to the bourbon industry. The governor of Kentucky bestowed the title of Colonel upon him for his contributions on this important matter of consumer protection.

Tasting note: Nose: marzipan and Seville orange offer a delightful lightness of touch and teasing complexity; Taste: almost a hint of single malt about the lightness of touch to the honey here; the arrival is sweet and busy with just enough oaky depth to add ballast; Finish: almost vanishes off the palate though the rye and spice stick around to impress. The curiously thin finish is in telling contrast to the superbly honeyed that simple dances with small grain charm...certainly has enough weight and fruit punch to make this better than the cheap brand it is perceived to be. 40% Alc./Vol. 89 points. - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2008
