Old Pulteney 30 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Highlands, SCOTLAND
$499. 99
Bottle
$5999.88 Dozen
ABV: 44%
Aged for 30 years and matured in ex-bourbon barrels this is the latest instalment from the distillery that took out Jim Murray's Whisky of the year for 2012 - only the second Scottish distillery to do so. Non chill-filtered with no colouring added and bottled at natural strength. It comes in a beautifully crafted walnut veneered presentation box.

Tasting notes: Unquestionably one of the sprightliest 30 year olds you'll ever come across, and by coincidence, reminiscent of a Domfrontais Calvados of similar ilk tried only days before - both in flavour and style. The very light, pale gold appearance is astonishing after three decades in wood, with some minor particles evident. Initial inspection offers waxy apple notes developing to ripe pear with sweet, spicy undertones. Aeration doesn't budge the bouquet in any significant way. The juicy, off-dry delivery features delicious toffee apple flavours, spicing up considerably towards the finish. Hints of pear and vanilla are followed by a subtle apple core fade. At what point does Pulteney grow up? Tasting this you'd wonder if it could ever fall over the edge. Start saving for the 40 year old - the oldest bottling of Old Pulteney to date, recently released in Europe and the US. 44% Alc./Vol.
