$1920.00 Dozen

This is the first time we've offered a whisky from the famed Mackmyra distillery. Located in Valbo, just outside Gävle, some 180km north of Stockholm. Mackmyra was founded in 1999 by eight friends from the Stockholm's Institute of Technology.

The first release in 2002 was an immediate hit worldwide and sold out within hours. It's since become a rather expensive collector's item and subsequent releases have continued the trend. Thankfully, production has significantly increased, and as the whiskies become ripe enough for bottling, we anticipate a more reliable supply.

In his 2009 Whisky Bible, Jim Murray reviewed fifteen whiskies from Mackmyra, the points averaging a staggering 93.5/100. Mackmyra's whiskies have also received high praise from Whisky Magazine's Dave Broom and Malt Advocate, John Hansell.

A customer recently told us a story about hundreds of people lined up outside the distillery, awaiting their chance to purchase a bottle. The same thing happens here in Australia, at the Penfold's cellar door when it's time for the latest Grange release. However, the Australian winter isn't as harsh as those experieced in Sweden, and our customer tells us that those lined up were doing so in single digit temperatures and two feet of snow! Talk about dedication!

This release was matured in 5.4% Swedish Oak, 45% of the other barrels employed were small (100 litres.) Bottled without colouring at 46.1%
