Another Springbank masterpiece.
Our allocation won't be sufficient to satisfy demand.

Longrow Red has become one of the most sought after of Springbank's annual releases. Always bottled at cask strength, every year a different type of red wine cask is used to finish the whisky. Previous incarnations experienced maturations in Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Port and Australian Shiraz casks. For those new to the label, Longrow is Springbank's heavily peated expression with less than 100 casks filled annually.

This 11 year old was matured in Bourbon barrels for eight years followed by a 36 month spell in refill Pinot Noir barriques sourced from acclaimed winemaker, Grant Taylor in Central Otago, New Zealand. 9000 bottles were produced, all of which seem to have sold out globally (you can source them from Europe, however retailers are already applying generous mark-ups). Collectors aim to maintain the series. Our allocation won't be sufficient to satisfy demand.

Tasting note: The beautiful autumn leaf gold colour is just one of the highlights of what ranks among the best Longrow Reds to date. Big and brawny, the lanolin-laced malt combines with remarkable wine input, introducing strawberry cream cake and berry muffin, the peat taking on a chocolatey aspect rather than an overt smokiness. Longrow enters new territory here; meaty and phenolic with a mesquite wood-smoke edge; white chocolate and cherry coconut slice develop in a huge, controlled delivery showing superb length. Later stages lead off with dark chocolate, shortbread and dried apricot notes before turning pleasingly astringent. A unique whisky experience that's arguably even better with water. So much going on here. In short, another Springbank masterpiece. Non chill filtered. 53.1% Alc./Vol.

"A smashing return to form for the Red. More the Six Nations Wales edition than the Labour leader. And a veritable bargain if you managed to grab one in the thirty seconds or so that it was available to buy online." - malt-review.com
