Riddled with controversy but never adversity, Laphroaig 15 has always flirted along the line of great and spectacular in the minds connoisseurs, documenting some truly remarkable ratings, including one from the late Michael Jackson. It is the richer, more mature and succulent elder brother of the robust 10 Year Old, a combination of the Kilbride Dam water with its iodine character and peaty malt. Mildly smoky, with sweet, warm undertones, and just a hint of the sea. Discover for yourself what this whisky is all about in this limited edition celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the distillery.

Tasting note: Brilliant deep gold. Surprisingly backward for Laphroaig, offering coy notes of smouldering pine, wet wool, vanilla and dried citrus peel. Soft and sedate on entry with the mid palate turning creamy yet dry, building in concentration with lanolin, kipper, salt and pepper. Ends with rolls of choc fudge infused peat. Accessible and relaxed by Laphroaig standards. 43% Alc.Vol.

Other reviews.... Laphroaig first released a 15-year-old expression during the 1980s, but it was discontinued after an 18-year-old was introduced in 2009. Now, however, as part of the Islay distillery’s bicentenary celebrations the 15-year-old is back. It offers the same sort of totally authentic Laphroaig experience as the upfront 10-year-old, but longer maturation has added a veneer of sophistication and additional complexity. Brine, tarry peat, warm leather, pepper and salted caramel on the nose. The palate is mellow and medicinal, with sweet, spicy smoke, citrus fruit and a hint of chilli. Long in the earthy finish, with a citrus tang; ashy, with drying smoke. 4 Stars 43.0% ABV
