The legend of Green Plaid is even more ancient than the distilling of Scotch Whisky. 'Plaid' is the traditional Scottish name for the heavy woolen tartan material used to make the famous kilt. It is thought that Green Plaid was worn by the first Lord of the Isles, a 12th Century Viking Warrior called Somerled. Today the Lord of the Isles tartan is incorporated into the label of each bottle of Inver House whisky.
Founded in 1964, Inver House is an independent Scottish based company. Within their portfolio there are five distilleries –Pulteney, Balblair, Speyburn, Knockdhu and Balmenach – each producing its own distinctive, individual single malt whisky. The component distillates of the Inverhouse blend are specially selected from the four principal regions of Scotch whisky production - Speyside, Northern Highland, West of Scotland Isles and the Southern Lowland regions. Centrally located in Airdrie, the company is well placed with warehousing for 500,000 barrels of whisky plus state of the art blending and laboratory facilities.
90 points. - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2008.
Tasting Notes: This whisky has a wonderful lightness to it that inspired one writer to describe it as “soft as a kiss.” Suffice to say that lovers of styles such as J&B and Cutty Sark will discover pleasant similarities in the Green Plaid. Medium to light gold in colour. The nose is pleasantly fragrant with barley malt notes and sweet citrus after tones. The palate is light, with a smooth malt flavour finishing with toffee and vanilla end tones.
