Glendronach Boynsmill 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Highlands, SCOTLAND
$240.00 Bottle
  • ABV 46%

All of Glendronach's signature notes are captured, with the Port adding mouthfeel and filling out the finish. Those who are partial to the 18 year old should find plenty to enjoy here.

Boynsmill is Glendronach's second foray into the massive duty free whisky market, following on from the highly successful (and very tasty) "Forgue". True to the distillery's style, it comes matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and oloroso Sherry casks only this time with the addition of a Port matured component.

The expression is named after Boynsmill Estate, which was established as the home for GlenDronach by its founder James Allardice in 1826 and continues to welcome visitors today.

Tasting note: Bright amber-copper. A dryish nose-feel packed with sherry character; Old leather, orange zest, dark chocolate and stewed plums; the PX adding Christmas cake and sticky date after brief exposure. Lively, spicy and concentrated, developing with flavours of plum, orange spice cake and bitter chocolate, all of Glendronach's signature notes are captured, with the Port adding mouthfeel and filling out the finish. Dried fig, walnuts, apricot brandy, light rancio and hints of coffee cake range through the mildly astringent aftertaste. Those who are partial to the 18 year old should find plenty to enjoy here. Non chill filtered. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... I said recently in another article that the offering of ‘GTR exclusives’ in duty free tends to be a bit uninspiring. Lacklustre, bland, and downright sub-par whiskies can make browsing the airport shelves more of a chore than a pleasure. Sure, there are a lot of good bottles there too, but most of those are already available domestically. Glendronach Boynsmill 16yo is neither lacklustre, bland, nor sub-par – it’s a genuine wallet-opener when I’m next flying in/out of Edinburgh. Inviting, layered, complex, and delicious. Really stellar stuff. - edinburghwhiskyblog.com

Notes from Glendronach... Burnished copper with a red bramble hue. NOSE: fruit-led and complex. Plum pudding, cherry stone and apricot brandy with traces of nutmeg and sandalwood tempered by the sweetness of quince. PALATE: Exceedingly rich and fruity with baked apricot, cherry and plum skin in a fruitcake with orange and walnut cream. CONCLUSION: Savour dates, apricot and walnut lingering into the rich velvet finish.
