Elements of Islay Lg5 Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (500ml)

We first encountered the "Elements" collection back in 2010, a series of seriously fun NAS whiskies produced by Specialty Drinks to celebrate Islay. Each bottling is a vatting of several barrels from a single distillery, identified by a 'chemical shorthand' on the label.

Lg5 was drawn from two refill hogsheads from the Lagavulin distillery, famous as arguably the most assertive, complex and intensely dry of all the Islay malts and sometimes described as 'liquid bandaid' for its strong medicinal character. As whisky from this distillery gets older, the smoky notes mellow and become more of a backdrop. Lg5 focusses on the fruit, but without losing the peat and smoke. The result is an ashy and tarry dram with a delicious core of orchard fruitiness. 54.8% Alc./Vol.
