Malt whisky lovers should keep an eye out for the new offerings being released by the reputable Cadenhead firm under their 'Duthies' label. Mr Duthie was the nephew of William Cadenhead and ran William Cadenhead Ltd from 1904 until his untimely death in 1931. He was also the person most responsible for building the reputation of Cadenhead's as a bottler of single malts and rum. The Duthies 'Copper Still' collection presently includes independent bottlings of Auchentoshan 19 YO, Caol Ila 13 YO, Cragganmore 15 YO, Glen Grant 13 YO (Sherry wood matured), Glen Scotia 17 YO and this, the Mortlach 18 YO (also exclusively matured in Sherry wood). All the whiskies have been non chill filtered with no colouring added.

Tasting note: Clear pale straw colour. The compelling aroma is one part fruit (mandarine, stewed pear) and one part confectionary (toasty marshmallow, bubblegum) making for an elusive but entertaining amalgam. Enters the palate soft and light, grassy ; mid palate is mildly spicy, medium dry, with good concentration. The citrus / dried grass theme continues with a faint peatiness emerging late as toasted marshmallow. Perfect balance. Clean, distinctive and belies its age. 46% Alc./Vol.
