Tasting note: Reportedly a favourite of malt enthusiasts who visit Eastview Estate, this deep, copper coin coloured 100% barley whisky offers a huge bouquet of vapoury alcohol, walnut fudge, mandarine peel and dark chocolate. The balance also impresses at high ABV. Initial barley is offset by prolonged bittersweetness, gaining ground at the finish with an intense peak of cream tea biscuits, orange peel, pipe tobacco, understated sooty/smokey notes and a warming, burnt orange aftertaste that goes on at length. Production wise, it's not clear how they achieved what is possibly one of the most striking profiles of the last twelve months. Remarkable stuff. Worth seeking out. 60% Alc./Vol.
