Uncompromising 2022 Releases from Place of Changing Winds

Place of Changing Winds is a high-density vineyard located in central Victoria between Mount Macedon and Mount Bullengaroo and its name is a translation of Warekilla, in the local Wurundjeri language. It's the brainchild of wine importer Robert Walters, who works in the vineyard and winery alongside Remi Jacquemain and Tom Trewin. Their Estate range comes from a rocky site at 500m elevation, surrounded by forest and native plantings, where vines only comprise 3.1 ha out of the 33 ha covered by the whole property. The site is organically certified and planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at really high-density, ranging from 12,500 to 33,000 vines/ha, a unique feature in Australia (or even in Burgundy where 10,000 vines is deemed high density). Everything is managed on site, from the cellar - located just next to the vineyard to minimise handling - to bottling.

The 2022 season required significant effort from the vineyard team. Despite the challenges, they managed to harvest a small crop of perfectly clean, ripe fruit, thanks to meticulous canopy management, very low yields, and a few warm days at the end of the season. The two 2022 Pinots exhibit wonderful finesse and perfume, while the Chardonnay is a powerful yet racy wine with a lot of character. All three wines reflect the essence of their origin, a no-compromise approach in both the vineyard and the cellar, and the extended 2022 season.
