Stunning 2021 Releases from Barossa Powerhouse Standish

The Standish wines are produced by former Torbreck winemaker Dan Standish, who started his own winemaking label in 1999 whilst still working for the iconic Barossa winery. He has since gone on establishing a global reputation for his rich, succulent and satiny-textured Shiraz through its four different "incarnations". In regards to winemaking, all Standish wines are handpicked, wild fermented then matured in a mix of French oak and concrete egg for at least 18 months, with a different degree of whole-bunch component based on the vintage and specific cuvee.

The 2021 vintage in the Barossa resulted in a long and cool growing season, with above average yields (in contrast to the previous two vintages which were both very hot, dry and low-yielding) and near-perfect conditions with very little disease pressure in the vineyard. The 2021 Standish collection is - across the board - well balanced, fresh and extremely concentrated, showing great aging potential thanks to well-timed picking which helped retain a great deal of natural acidity. It's hardly ever seen, especially in the region, such fine balance, elegance and fruit purity going hand in hand with boldness, opulence and serious tannic profile; somehow Standish manage to achieve such harmony with great consistency, and no doubt these 2021 releases will be remembered for years to come.
