Award-winning 2023 Giant Steps Single Vineyard Releases
Giant Steps was founded by wine industry pioneer Phil Sexton, who moved from Margaret River to the Yarra Valley in search of the perfect site for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. He found it at the Sexton vineyard, planted in 1997 on the Warramate Ranges' slopes. In 2003, Steve Flamsteed joined as winemaker, and together they crafted iconic wines that reflect the unique character of six Yarra Valley sites. Since 2021, when Giant Steps was sold to Jackson Family Wines, Melanie Chester took the role of Head of Winemaking and Viticulture, with a strong commitment of honouring the diversity and expression of these vineyards.
A cold, wet spring followed by a mild summer allowed for a long growing season, leading to excellent fruit quality and complex flavors in what ended up being an outstanding 2023 vintage. The 2023 Single Vineyard wines continue to showcase their unique personalities, growing more refined each year. The trio of Pinot Noir is "worth every cent and more", in Shanteh Wale's words, while according to Steve Flamsteed "the 2023 is perhaps the greatest chardonnay season yet to date".
Giant Steps has been named the 2025 Halliday Winery of the Year.
