Bunnahabhain Darach Ur Single Malt Scotch Whisky (1000ml)

Islay, SCOTLAND
$130. 00
Bottle
$1560.00 Dozen
ABV: 46.3%

Darach Ur means "new oak" in Scot's Gaelic. But despite the suggestion of the official press release, it’s reported that this wasn't fully matured in new oak (i.e.- ‘virgin’ oak that’s not previously held anything before). Had it been the case this would have been a ‘category breaking’ new whisky. Rather, it was re-racked (finished) in new oak casks. The new oak barrels are from a family run cooperage in Bardstown, Kentucky. The Bunna’ spirit that went into them was aged from 5 to 20 years. This particular bottling is exclusive to Duty Free but we’ve managed to source a very small quantity.

Tasting note: Bright gold colour. Aromas are moderately intense, mildly peaty and malty, with cocoa and sawn timber / cigar box undertones. In the mouth, delicately peaty flavours are accompanied by semi sweet malt and a spicy, tingly spirit. Finishes dry and spicy with good persistence. As for Islay characteristics, if you’re looking for strong peaty/medicinal notes you won’t find them in abundance in this or almost any Bunnahabhain (phenol levels are usually just 2-3ppm as opposed to 30++ for most other Islays). It’s marketed as the "Gentle Taste of Islay" for a reason. 46.3%
