For the first expression in Bruichladdich’s new Multi-Vintage Trilogy, master distiller Jim McEwan selected casks of varying ages and allowed the whisky in them an additional period of maturation in casks that had previously held French red wine.

Tasting note: Pale gold straw appearance with a subtle turquoise blush. A delightful sniff includes dried fruits, a pleasant nuttiness as well as hints of sweet spice and honey. Entry is exceptionally pure and very gently warming with semi-sweet malt, vanilla and lozenge followed by a delicate spray of salty peat on the finish lingering with hints boiled lolly. Superb balance. One of the highlights in the present range. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Fruit is the common thread to this lightly peated whisky; red fruit, that is. Red raspberry, red currant, red seedless grape, strawberry, and red apple. A gentle sweetness (creamy vanilla, light molasses) balances all this fruit. Not overly contemplative, but delightful. This is definitely  not the same Rocks I reviewed two years ago. It is richer, darker in color, and tastes more mature. It's an improved version, and my rating reflects this. 84 points (Vol. 17, #4)  Reviewed by: John Hansell.size>

“...Perhaps softer than you’d imagine something called ‘Rocks’! Beautiful little malty charge on the entry.” 82 points Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2012size>
