Bruichladdich's whiskies are noted for generally been unpeated. However, they do diverge into more traditional Islay territory with several bottlings including their ridiculously peaty 'Octomore'. This behemoth of the whisky world ranks as one of the peatiest at 80.5ppm (the likes of Ardbeg usually reach around 40ppm). This is another Bruichladdich bomb, but not in the way you might expect. Look out all you hairy chested peat freaks - you may have met your soul mate!

Tasting note: Pristine, pale straw appearance. Compared with the Octomore 5 tasted previously, this is more assertive on the nose, immediately yielding up heady scents of soot and brine, becoming sweeter over time as choc fudge and heavy vanilla cream emerge. Third inspection draws out hints of dried manure. Pleasantly tingly, creamy and gently warming across the tongue, it expands in the mouth into an enormous, perfectly poised sensation featuring choc fudge and bittersweet dark chocolate. The dry, lanolin-like aftertaste is intermixed with cocoa, hints of baked citrus and seemingly never ends. Although not as mind bogglingly complex and unforgettable as the Octomore 5, it is nevertheless a tremendous whisky experience. We were fortunate to receive a small sample from a fellow whisky enthusiast. Very limited stocks. 50% Alc./Vol.
