Bowmore The Devil's Casks Limited Release Batch 3 Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky (700ml)

The Devil's Cask editions garnered a minor cult following soon after the inaugural release in 2013. This is the final in the series, matured in first fill sherry casks (Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez). The label pays homage to an old Islay tale: When the devil himself was chased through the village of Bowmore, he fled into the distillery before escaping in a barrel bound for the mainland. Two previous limited editions in the range (now sold out) were matured in first-fill Sherry casks for ten years. Extremely limited stocks.

Other reviews... Sadly, the final chapter in a series which deservedly acquired cult status because of the way it showed how well Bowmore behaved in close proximity to sherry casks. This was aged in oloroso and PX and has a thick, dark nose, all dried black fruits and saddlebags. The smoke is sotto voce. The savory nature continues on the palate. It needs water to bring out fresh fruits, and while there’s a bitterness on the end, that’s a minor cavil.

As many rum notes here as well as whisky ones... There is something deliciously satanic about the smoky verses... At last I am in league with the devil!
