The Black Bull blend was originally trademarked in1933 by George Willshire & Co Ltd, and celebrates the historic Highland Cattle that Scotland is famous for. The name subsequently was assigned to Duncan Taylor & Co Ltd after its takeover of the company in 2001. The present day range includes Black Bull 12, 30 and 40 yr old whiskies.

The latter is the company's flagship. Cask strength, non chill filtered and non coloured it's composed of 85.6% single malt, the remainder single grain. Malts from Ben Nevis, Bunnahabhain, Caperdonich, Glen Grant, Glenlivet, Highland Park and Invergordon feature in Batch 3.

The announcement of two further gold awards for Black Bull 40 year old at the International Spirits Challenge and the Best in Glass awards makes a total of eleven awards for the brand during the last year alone, six of them gold.

Other reviews... [Notes from a previous batch] A whopping 90% malt and 10% grain whisky. Soft, with the oak remarkably restrained for its age. Soothingly sweet, with toffee apple, vanilla-spiked sponge cake, nougat, butterscotch, sultana, and cut grass. A dash of cinnamon and coconut throughout, with teasing, gentle polished oak on the finish. Deftly balanced and oh, so drinkable. 41.6% Alc./Vol. 92 points - www.maltadvocate.com, (Vol. 19, #3) Reviewed by: John Hansellsize>
